The biggest problem in the USA with respect to the transition to sustainable energy sources is our old and outdated (aka 'dumb') electrical grid.

The solution? A new smart electrical grid! Sure, that's a big challenge, but ultimately just an engineering challenge. Here's an interesting approach:
